Maroubra Snapshot

Maroubra is one of the lucky Eastern Suburbs that directly borders the coastline, spoiling residents with picturesque views and a perfect lifestyle. Locals here enjoy two things; surfing and shopping!

Did You Know?

Maroubra Beach was the second Australian beach to be named a National Surfing Reserve, with Bells Beach in Victoria being the first.

Neighbouring Suburbs

Fellow coastal suburbs include Coogee, Clovelly and Tamarama.

What You’ll Love

Overcoming years of controversy and infamy, Maroubra is now one of Sydney’s most desirable postcodes and it really isn’t hard to see why! Located 10 km from Sydney CBD, this beachside suburb is far enough away that residents can enjoy a quieter lifestyle, whilst still being privy to a short and easy commute to work. As such, many of the locals are a split between working professionals and young families.

Maroubra is home to a beautiful 1 km stretch of beach which has been given the prestigious status of National Surfing Reserve, much to local surfers delight. The easy and calm conditions are perfect for beginners to find their feet when learning to surf and for those game enough, there is a Coastal Walk all the way down to Maroubra.

While surfing might be on the top of many locals minds, it’s not the only pastime they enjoy. Outdoor gyms and beach cricket are also incredibly popular, with many taking any chance they can get to enjoy the great outdoors. The winter swimming club is another favourite, with members often competing against swimmers from clubs at beaches to the north of Maroubra.

Fitness buffs and families alike will enjoy Arthur Byrne Reserve, home to a number of amazing features, including the pavilion, enclosed playground, skate park, expansive green fields and of course BBQ facilities. Further north is Mistral Point, a rugged reserve boasting draw-dropping views of the eastern coastline, home to popular saltwater pool, Mahon Pool.  And if that’s not enough, the Des Renford Aquatic Centre has indoor and outdoor pools, tennis courts, sporting fields, parklands and a 2 km cycling track.

Families will enjoy the variety of playgrounds on offer, including Arthur Byrne Reserve Playground, Central Park Playground, Ocean View Reserve Playground, Coral Sea Park Playground and Heffron Park Playground.

Despite all Maroubra has to offer outdoors, locals are often found indoors – at one of the amazing dining options! McKeon Street is home to some of the most well-known spots, with Maroubra Junction and South Maroubra shopping centre also boasting a fine selection. Some local favourites for a quick bite to eat include Barnacles Fish & Chips, The Feedbag Burger Restaurant, The Bay Bakehouse, The Grumpy Baker, North End Cafe, Pool Cafe and Stomping Ground Espresso.

For a finer dining experience, local restaurants include the likes of Pavilion Beachfront, Bazara, Chalk Espresso, The Bay Hotel & Diner, T-Bone Bar & Grill and El Toro. Follow it up with a drink or two at local watering holes Sands Hotel Maroubra and Glasshouse Hotel.

For those who prefer to indulge in a spot of shopping, South Maroubra Shopping Village is the place to go, featuring a fantastic selection of designer, every-day and boutique options.
